The Chicago Blackhawks have added three players to their COVID-19 Protocol on Saturday morning.
Patrick Kane, Ryan Carpenter and Erik Gustafsson are either awaiting further testing or are being monitored for symptoms. the Canucks were the most recent team to play the Chicago Blackhawks on Thursday night. you can read more about Thursday nights game down below.
The Blackhawks announced all three players would miss practice on Saturday. the team hasn't made an announcement yet on if the three players would play against the Detroit Red Wings on Sunday.
If they remain symptom-free and can return negative COVID-19 tests in each of the next 2 days, they can be cleared from protocol and allowed to return to the Blackhawk's lineup.
That’s what happened with four Seattle Kraken players last week, following a positive test by their teammate Calle Järnkrok. Järnkrok was a confirmed positive and had been in isolation until this week, but his teammates were cleared in time to dress for the team’s season opener in Las Vegas.
The Vancouver Canucks are in Seattle tonight to face the Kraken in their inaugural home opener. It remains unknown at this time whether the Canucks will be affected by the positive tests in Chicago. Canucks players are tested three times per week and have their entire roster fully vaccinated.
The good news in all this is that in Seattle and in Winnipeg, which has two players in isolation — the symptomatic Blake Wheeler and the asymptomatic Mark Scheifele — vaccinations are clearly working as spread of the virus has been limited.
