Things have somehow gone from bad to worse for the Sharks. At 0-7-2, is it time for the young rebuilding team to hit the panic button?
The San Jose Sharks have not yet found their footing during their 2024-25 campaign as they continue their four game road trip into Utah on Monday evening. With their highly touted prospect Macklin Celebrini missing all but one game with a lower-body injury, it seems the team has hit a brick wall.
Sharks fans, expecting their team to take a large leap forward this year, have been left disappointed as their team loses its ninth game in a row to open the season.
It has now been confirmed that the Sharks have set an NHL record after their 7-3 defeat to Vegas on Saturday night.
Sharks make history, for all the wrong reasons
The Sharks are officially the first team in league history to start back-to-back seasons with nine or more losses in a row. During their 2023-24 campaign which saw them finish 32nd in the league, they opened the season 0-10-1.
Now, this season, they currently sit 0-7-2 and dead last in the league standings. This is despite making several large acquisitions during the offseason with key players like Tyler Toffoli, Yaroslav Askarov, Alex Wennberg, Ty Dellandrea and Jake Walman.
Until Celebrini returns, this team will be hard pressed to get their first win of the season. They ride into Utah and face a hungry hockey club that has been winless in three straight.
Unfortunately for Sharks fans, the status of Macklin remains week-to-week as the young star continues to skate on his own & with other injured players.
Will the Sharks finally get their first win of the season against Utah on Monday night?
