The NHLPA, NHL made an important announcement today. The International World Cup of Hockey tournament will be making a comeback in 2024.
This will be the first time since 2016 that we've had a best of best tournament in the NHL, partially due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The last time the tournament was held, there were 8 teams in total. Those teams include.
-Canada (24-and-over players)
-Czech Republic
-Finland
-Russia
-Sweden
- United States (24-and-over players)
- Team Europe (Austria, Denmark, France, Germany, Norway, Slovakia, Slovenia, Switzerland, Europe)
-Team North America (Canadians and Americans 23-and-under players)
This time, the tournament is looking to add two nations to compete, bringing the total of teams to 10.

There is still uncertainty about the potential for Russia to have a team in the World Cup, Daly said.
The NHL continues to suspend all business relationships in Russia since its invasion of Ukraine in February and aligns with the mandate from the International Ice Hockey Federation that the nation is suspended from all international competitions until further notice.
During the 2016 World Cup, Canada ended up winning the tournament over team Europe in the finals following a massive comeback. Brad Marchand scored a shorthanded goal to bring the trophy back home to Canada.
Bettman revealed that the tournament would take place in February 2024 and is expected to take place over a span of 15-days.
"We're out in market already moving ahead with plans for a February 2024 World Cup," Daly said. "We're still on schedule."
