Ovechkin enters his 19th NHL season with his sights set on an impressive all-time record, as well as an elite milestone.
50-Goal club record
Ovechkin has been one of the greatest goal scorers the NHL has ever seen since entering the league in 2005-06. One of his most notable career feats is his impressive (9) 50-goal seasons.
If Ovechkin were to score 50 goals in the upcoming 2023-24 campaign, he would surpass Mike Bossy and Wayne Gretzky as the only player in history to record (10) 50-goal seasons.
Both Bossy and Gretzky reached the 50-goal plateau just (9) times in their respective career's.
At 38-years-old it may be difficult for Ovechkin to hit 50-goals again. He's coming off a 42-goal campaign in the 2022-23 campaign with a Capitals team that failed to make the playoffs for the fourth time in his career.
Ovechkin eyes exclusive club
Ovechkin heads into the 2023-24 season eyeing the exclusive 1,500-points club, which will make him just the 16th player in league history to do-so.
Currently, he has 822 goals, 1,485 points in 1,347 games played.
If he was somehow able to record 115 points this season, he would become just the tenth player in league history to hit the 1,600 point club.
