Russian goaltender Ivan Fedotov's window to return to the NHL this year is officially closed, as he dropped his appeal at trial yesterday.
Back in July, Fedotov was detained in Russia for allegedly evading military service.
The court was prepared to rule against his appeal, and he will now be serving a single year in the Russian military before being able to return to North America.
The Flyers will now have the option to freeze his contract.
Fedotov, 25, was under a 1-year contract with the Philadelphia Flyers for the 2022-23 season with a cap hit of $925,000.
The goaltender was drafted 188th overall by the Flyers in the 2015 NHL entry draft. He will be an RFA by the end of the season.
