Former NHL player and coach Tom McCarthy has passed away, as announced by the NHL Alumni on twitter this morning.
McCarthy was drafted 10th overall in the 1979 NHL draft, and played 460 games in the NHL for the Minnesota North Stars, and the Boston Bruins, producing 399 points (178 goals, 221 assists) over the span of 9 seasons.
His passing was following an emergency heart surgery in Mexico that was unsuccessful, he was 61-years-old at the time of his passing.
His best season was 1983-84, when he managed to score a career high 39 goals in a span of 66 games.
