Edmonton Oilers cancel Tuesday's practice amid COVID-19 concerns

Updated: Jan 8, 2022

The Edmonton Oilers were already shorthanded on defense when Cody Ceci entered COVID-19 protocol on Tuesday morning.

As a result of this, the Oilers cancelled practice this afternoon for precautionary reasons.

COVID-19 has been an ongoing issue around the NHL so far this season, despite having nearly every player in the league vaccinated. When a player enters protocol, it doesn't necessarily mean they tested positive for COVID-19, it may have just been an exposure.

The left-side defense for the Oilers has been hit hard this season by injuries, Duncan Keith was also officially placed on the Injury Reserve today after an Upper-Body injury against the Dallas Stars back on November 23rd, he hasn't played since.

Edmonton remains 2nd in the Pacific division with a 15-5-0 record, and trail only the Calgary Flames.

Cody Ceci has 1 goal and 5 assists in 20 games with the Oilers so far this season.

The Oilers play their next game on Wednesday night, when they host the red-hot Pittsburgh Penguins at Rogers Place in Edmonton. The game will be live at 7PM PST (10PM EST) on Sportsnet.
