Edmonton Oilers Coach Dave Tippett addressed the media after Tuesday's Practice, saying Connor McDavid and Derek Ryan both tested positive with COVID-19. He said they'll both get tested again on Wednesday morning to confirm their status for the game against the Leafs.
After initially testing positive for COVID-19, Matthews has now returned two negative tests in a row, making it likely that he could be in the line-up for the Oilers VS Leafs game tomorrow night.
Toronto Maple Leafs Coach Sheldon Keefe confirmed to social media after morning Practice that Matthews tested negative for his PCR test, but did not practice with his team due to precautionary measures.
Matthews currently leads the Leafs with 20 goals and 33 points so far this season.
The Edmonton Oilers desperately need a result out of tonight's game, and it will certainly be difficult if they're missing their captain.
Edmonton is 2-8-2 in their past 12 games, as they grasp on to the second wildcard spot in the Western Conference.
