Chris Tanev has been on the trading block for some time now, with multiple teams interested in acquiring the defenseman.
Tanev, at 34-years-old, is still proven very affective at blocking shots and killing off penalties. The Calgary Flames are stuck in the mushy middle of the NHL standings, and would like to start looking towards some of their younger talents in the pipeline.
One team in the Western Conference has been linked to Tanev, which would create an immediate impact on their blue line.
Canucks linked to Tanev
A reunion between the Canucks and Chris Tanev might be in the works. On the Donnie & Dahli podcast this afternoon, they spoke about a potential return to Vancouver for the blueliner.
You can listen to the brief discussion about Tanev down below:
"I'm still hearing Chris Tanev's name attached to the Vancouver Canucks" Rick Dhaliwal said, "the (Canucks) core does not have a ton of playoff games played. Adding leadership and a player that is still very respected in the Vancouver dressing room makes a ton of sense" he adds.
"Still has a very soft spot in his heart for the city of Vancouver, he never wanted to leave. He wanted to finish his career in Vancouver".
Bringing in Tanev would immediately resolve the issue of moving Ian Cole, a left side defenseman, onto the right side. Cole would be able to move back to his side, and the Canucks would significantly improve on the back-end.
In 38 games with the Flames in 2023-24, Tanev has just one goal, and seven points. However, he is more known for his defensive play.
Tanev is currently in the final year of a 4-year, $18,000,000 deal ($4.5M AAV) which he signed with the Flames back in 2020.
