On Monday morning, the Vancouver Canucks announced Quinn Hughes as their 15th captain in franchise history.
Quinn Hughes has been one of the leagues best defensemen since joining the Canucks in the 2018-19 season. He has 241 career points (26 goals, 215 assists) in 283 games played throughout his career. Making him one of the highest scoring defensemen (Points / Game) in the salary cap era.
During the 2019-20 Playoffs, Hughes had an impressive 16 points (2 goals, 14 assists) in 17 games. This was his first postseason appearance in a Canucks uniform, and came only after his first full NHL season.
The Canucks had three candidates for the captaincy position. Quinn Hughes, J.T. Miller and Elias Pettersson all were favorites to don the "C" for this team.
