What. A. Game. The Vancouver Canucks defeat the Seattle Kraken 4-2 in the Climate Pledge arena. The I-5 Rivalry between the Canucks and the Kraken is officially born.
The Kraken fans are loud, There are definitely Seahawks fans in the climate pledge arena tonight.
The Kraken fans began to express their early hatred for the Canucks by booing them right out of the gate, we can't wait to return the same favor when we host the Kraken on December 27th.
Gary Bettman reminded us Canucks fans why we hate him when he made a special appearance and followed with a "lets go Kraken".
1ST PERIOD
The first period was filled with plenty of back and forth action. some massive hits from Chiasson and Burroughs, including this gem from Chiasson on the infamous Mark Giordano, Seattle Kraken captain and the former captain of the Calgary flames.
The Canucks played decent in the first period, until the final minute when Seattle's Vince Dunn capitalized on a sloppy shift by the Canucks, Giving Seattle a 1-0 Lead at 19:56 in the first period.
Quinn Hughes set another NHL Record tonight !
2ND PERIOD
Thatcher Demko played lights out tonight, he singlehandedly kept us in this game. Including making this phenomenal goal-line save. Welcome back bubble demko, we missed you.
Demko has the Twitter universe BUZZING
The Canucks had a worrisome stretch of 16:02 Without registering a single shot on net, with Demko making some phenomenal key saves to keep it 1-0 until Bo Horvat made it 1-1 at 11:09 in the 2nd period, from a beautiful play by Conor Garland !
The Canucks need to find a way to get pucks out of their zone moving forward. Hopefully this is only a side-affect of being at the end of a 6 game road trip.
THIRD PERIOD
Mark Giordano scored at 5:09 in the 3rd Period to give the Kraken the 1 goal advantage. Unfortunately, Demko can't save everything at the moment, he isn't a brick wall (Yet).
Bo Horvat proved the doubters wrong again, he scored AGAIN to tie the game 2-2 at 12:52 in the 3rd period. This time a powerplay goal assisted by Quinn Hughes (3) and J.T. Miller (6).
Miller is quietly having an exceptional start to the season, i feel like he needs some more credit for the points he is producing.
We all need to thank the Arizona Coyotes for giving us such an exceptional player. Conor Garland is making quite the name of himself, scoring this beauty of a goal at 15:58 in the 3rd period !
Make that 8 points (3G 5A) in 6 games for the angry little elf. I can't get enough of this guy.
Conor Garland is having some fun with the Kraken fans after scoring that beauty of a goal.
Lesson learned for this day one Kraken fan, don't heckle with Conor Garland.
Justin Dowling takes the empty netter at 19:00 In the 3rd to seal the deal, Making it 4-2 Canucks, and spoiling the Seattle Kraken's opening night. He has his second goal of the season, assisted by J.T. Miller (7) and Brock Boeser (1).
Are the Kraken fans booing? Or Gruuuing? We may never know. The crowd has been silenced at the beautiful new climate pledge arena.
Its very evident that the Vegas Golden Knights set the inaugural season bar to unmeasurable heights with the success of their 2017-18 campaign when they played for the Stanley Cup.
While Seattle still has time to turn their season around, its safe to say their team most likely wont measure up to that Spectacular Vegas team.
Seattle is now 1-4-1 to start the season, and they have now lost 4 games in a row. Welcome to the NHL, winning is difficult.
My 3 Stars of the game
1st Star: Bo Horvat ( 2G )
2nd Star: Conor Garland ( GWG , 1A )
3rd Star: Thatcher Demko ( 29 Saves )
We are coming back to Vancouver to play the Minnesota Wild on tuesday night, in front of a packed Rogers Arena. it's been a long time coming since the Canucks last had home fans, March 10, 2020 when we hosted the New York Islanders and won 5-4 in a shootout. Expect the fans to be loud and the team to be energized after a successful 3-2-1 Road trip.
Sleep well Canucks fans, we won again !
