The trade will send the Maple Leafs: Matt Murray (25% Salary Retained), a 2023 3rd round pick, and a 2024 7th round pick. The Ottawa Senators will be receiving future considerations in return.
The 28-year-old goaltender spent two years with the Senators, where he went 15-25-3 in 48 games played.
Murray is best known for his role as the backup goaltender to Marc-Andre Fleury during his five-year stretch with the Pittsburgh Penguins between 2015-16 and 2019-20.
Leafs fans apparently aren't happy with their recent acquisition of the goaltender.
Currently, Murray has two-years remaining on his 4-year, $25M contract. His Cap hit with the Maple Leaf's is $4,687,500 as Ottawa will retain 25% salary.
Will this trade pay off for the Maple Leaf's who are desperate to make a run at the Stanley Cup while their window remains open? Only time will tell.
