BREAKING: Sean Monahan to be traded to Eastern-conference team

We're getting reports that Sean Monahan is on his way out of Calgary, as per Chris Johnston of Sportsnet, and multiple insiders.


The skilled forward will be headed to the Montreal Canadiens to clear cap space for Nazem Kadri's contract.


Terms/length are yet to be announced.



The 27-year-old Brampton, Ontario native has been an absolute stud in the NHL since being drafted 6th overall by the Flames in the 2013 draft.

His career-high 34 goals and 82 points came in the 2018-19 season, and since then his game has fallen off.


He has one season remaining on a seven-year, $44.62 million contract which was initially signed in 2016. His cap hit for the upcoming season is $6.375 million.



Here's last seasons advanced stats for Monahan, who had a lackluster performance. Putting up 8 goals and 23 points in 65 games.





Going to Montreal would be a great shake-up for the centerman looking to rejuvenate his NHL career with a new team.


Over the length of his 9-year career with the Flames, Monahan had 212 goals and 462 points in 656 games.
