Canucks leading scorer J.T. Miller has been confirmed to not be practicing with the Vancouver Canucks today.
Brendan Batchelor of Sportsnet 650 confirmed on Twitter this morning.
JT might have just been banged up from the previous game against Chicago and had to take a maintenance day, it is still unknown at this time.
However, it is known that the Minnesota Wild had reached out to Jim Benning about a potential trade between the two teams.
Minnesota was offering Kevin Fiala for the Canucks star forward. The 25-year old Fiala has 12 points (3 goals, 9 assists) in 18 games this season, and JT Miller currently leads all Canucks in scoring with 19 points (7 goals, 12 assists) in 19 games.
Miller currently is signed to a $5.25M cap hit until the end of the 2022-23 season. He has notched 49 goals and 88 assists in 141 games with Vancouver so far.
Rick Dhaliwal had came to twitter to confirm that J.T. Millers agent had not been in discussion with the Canucks involving a trade for his client (Miller).
Fiala has performed quite well in Minnesota, establishing career-highs in assists (31) and points (54) during his first full year with his new club, while also matching his personal best goal production with 23.
Fiala had signed a one-year, $5.1 million bridge deal with Minnesota prior to the 2021-22 season.
Fiala may need a change of scenery as he has hit the 20-goal plateau 3 times in his young career, and it is looking like he may fall short of the 20-goal mark this season.
Minnesota may need to offer more if they wish to land JT Miller who is looking like another lock in the top-15 scoring in the NHL for his second time in 3 seasons.
Minnesota is currently 11-6-1 with 23 points, Vancouver is 6-11-2 with 14 points.
The Minnesota Wild look to make a trade for a short-term, high-risk player who could guide the ship for them through the Stanley cup Playoffs, and Vancouver needs a massive shake-up. Could this potential trade benefit both teams?
