The Colorado Avalanche have signed Nathan Mackinnon to a massive eight-year contract extension, officially making him the highest paid player in the NHL.
The contract carries an AAV of $12.6 million, which is definitely well earned for the Avalanche player.
The 27-year-old is arguably one of the best players in the world, and after helping lead Colorado to a Stanley Cup championship last year, an extension of this amount was only neccessary.
Believe it or not, people still believe that with that high of an average salary, Mackinnon is still underpaid.
The centerman has 242 goals and 648 points in 638 career games with the Avalanche.
