Arizona Coyotes attendance has officially hit rock bottom

Article continues below ad

The Arizona Coyotes play the New Jersey Devils tonight at Gila River Arena, and almost nobody has bought a ticket to the game. Literally.

The Blue represents seats that are available, which was approximately 90% of seats around 12pm PST today. And with the average ticket price being around $20, things are not looking very good for the state of the Arizona Coyotes.

The Coyotes will be playing their home games in the 5,000 capacity Arizona State University hockey rink. Will they even be able to sell that stadium out when they begin to play there next season?

This season, Arizona attendance was 3rd lowest in the NHL at around 65% behind only Ottawa (had to play some empty home games due to COVID-19 restrictions) and Buffalo (51%).

The game tonight is a battle of two of the worst teams in the NHL which is partially to blame, however, for an NHL club to have such low attendance figures and to move into a college arena for next season is an embarrassment for the league.

If you’re reading this Bettman, just remember there’s a 16,000 capacity stafium up in Quebec city with the Coyotes name written all over it.
