A 2024 NHL draft eligible prospect out of the WHL (Western Hockey League) has been suspended after it was discovered he had been using performance-enhancing substances.
Matthew Henry handed lengthy suspension for using illegal substances
The WHL announced on Friday afternoon that prospect Matthew Henry has been suspended eight games by the league for violating the CHL's drug education and anti-doping policy.
The suspension was for a first violation using a prohibited substance, the league said in a release on Friday.
He'll begin serving his suspension immediately, the WHL said.
The 19-year-old has zero goals, and one assist through 37 games played with the Brandon Wheat Kings this season.
The Wheat Kings finished sixth in the Eastern Conference standings this season.
They were scheduled to open a first-round playoff series against the Moose Jaw Warriors on Friday night.
